What MAAWS stands for.

MAAWS is an acronym of Munshi Atar Ali Welfare Society. Munshi Atar Ali, was a merchant farmer who lived in the village of Earpur in Senbagh, Noakhali, Bangladesh. Ali devoted his life to helping others through education, social development and sharing of community resources.

Flooding in Bangladesh

The Situation
Catastrophic flooding has devastated Eastern Bangladesh including MAAWS project district of Noakhali.  Millions of  people in Eastern Bangladesh have been affected.  In Noakhali had flooding at a minimum of 1.5 feet to as high as 4 feet and more.  Now reconstruction must begin.
Needed Immediately
Donations to keep supplying food and oral saline as conditions such as are diarrhea are on the sharp rise.  Water-borne diseases like typhoid, cholers and hepatitis A will start to spread rapidly due to contaminated water.  Also to start reconstruction.
MAAWS is  Helping
Many people are currently sheltering on the upper levels of the Earpur High School and the MAAWS Health Complex.  The capacity is maxed out like many shelters in the area.  MAAWS is also distributing food, drinking water and aid to residents in Earpur, Senbagh, Noakhali.  After getting  critical aid to people, we will be focusing on recovery and rebuilding efforts as flood waters recede.
