Our Mission

MAAWS seeks to create a multilingual bridge of education and cultural sensitivity within communities to combat issues through education, training and outreach programs. Our program areas include COVID-19, cancer, hepatitis and cardiovascular diseases.

What MAAWS stands for

MAAWS is an acronym of Munshi Atar Ali Welfare Society. Munshi Atar Ali, was a merchant farmer who lived in the village of Earpur in Senbagh, Noakhali, Bangladesh. Ali devoted his life to helping others through education, social development and sharing of community resources.

Fighting Covid-19

After the COVID-19 outbreak in February 2020, MAAWS started distributing personal protective equipment (PPE) including ear loop and N95 masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, thermometers, and disinfecting sprays. With the help of local health care businesses, MAAWS distributed 1000 pieces of PPE to community organizations including mosques and small stores in the Mid-Hudson valley.
During Ramadan 2020, we also arranged and distributed 3500 pounds of rice and dates for families in New York City communities ravaged by the virus. We also helped with funeral arrangements of family members burying loved ones devastated by COVID-19 . with the help of its network with funeral homes.
